Working Principle and Wiring Method of Ultra-Low Frequency High Voltage Generator

The ultra-low frequency high voltage generator has a very wide range of applications in the field of power testing. It is mainly used for power frequency withstand voltage tests on large generators, cables, and other test objects. Due to its small size and relatively light weight, it is a popular power testing instrument among power workers. Therefore, taking the YTC1104 ultra-low frequency high voltage generator as an example, this article briefly introduces the working principle and wiring method of the ultra-low frequency high voltage generator.

Wiring description: Use the two dedicated wires and the grounding wire provided with this product to connect according to the method shown in Figure 4. Connect the power socket to 50Hz/220V AC power using the power cord.

The ultra-low frequency insulation withstand voltage test is actually an alternative method to the power frequency withstand voltage test. As we know, when conducting power frequency withstand voltage tests on large generators, cables, and other test objects, due to their insulation layers having relatively large capacitance, a test transformer or resonant transformer with a large capacity is required. Such huge equipment is not only bulky and expensive but also very inconvenient to use. To solve this contradiction, the power department adopted a method of reducing the test frequency, thereby reducing the capacity of the test power supply.

Years of theoretical and practical experience at home and abroad have proven that using 0.1Hz ultra-low frequency withstand voltage tests instead of power frequency withstand voltage tests not only provides the same equivalence but also greatly reduces the size and weight of the equipment. Theoretically, the capacity is about one five-hundredth of that at power frequency. The test procedure is greatly simplified, and it has more advantages compared to power frequency tests. This is why developed countries commonly adopt this method. The Ministry of Electric Power of China has commissioned the Wuhan High Voltage Research Institute to draft the industry standard "Test Method for Ultra-Low Frequency (0.1Hz) Withstand Voltage of 35kV and Below Cross-linked Polyethylene Insulated Power Cables." China is currently promoting this method, and this instrument has been developed based on this national need. It can be widely used in AC withstand voltage tests for cables, large high-voltage rotating motors, and power capacitors.

The working principles of different ultra-low frequency high voltage generators are generally the same. The main differences are slight variations in the panel and operation methods. Power workers should first thoroughly read the product operation manual before performing corresponding operations to avoid accidents.
