Cable Maintenance Cycle and Preparations Before Laying

1. Cable Maintenance Cycle

Major overhaul once every three years, minor repair 1 to 2 times per year.

1.1 Cable Major Overhaul

Clean the surface of cable heads and lead wires.

Use a 0.05 mm feeler gauge to check the contact surface of the cable lug; it should not be able to insert. If overheating is found, re-polish and treat it, and if necessary, remake the cable head.

Check that the grounding wire and fixing clamps are tight.

Darui Equipment Co., Ltd.Safety tool testing equipment is produced to meet the development needs of China's power industry, respond to the spirit of the new version of the "Safety Regulations" of State Grid Corporation, and support the standardized construction of substations and power supply stations.      For cables that fail the test, find out the cause and deal with it.

1.2 Cable Minor Repair

Clean the surface of cable heads and lead wires.

Measure cable insulation; if unqualified, find out the cause and deal with it.

1.3 Treatment of Poor Cable Insulation.

When the outside of the cable head is damp, it can be dried with an infrared lamp, hot air from a hair dryer, etc.

If the inside of the cable is damp, a section of the cable must be sawed off, and after the insulation passes the test, a new head should be made.

When there is obvious grounding or short circuit in the cable, use external inspection or the method of applying high voltage to break down, find the fault location, and then deal with it.

2. Preparations for Cable Laying

Selection of cables and routes:

2.1 For 6kV cables directly buried underground, armored cables with protective layer should be selected; for cables of 1kV and below, if there is no risk of mechanical damage and chemical corrosion, unarmored cables with protective layer can be selected.

2.2 For cables of 1kV and below, laid in trenches or tunnels, unarmored cables are used.

2.3 For cables laid in pipes, thickened bare lead-sheathed cables should be selected (bare armored cables can be used in short pipes crossing roads).

2.4 Cables laid indoors or in cable trenches are not allowed to have jute protective layer.

2.5 Select cables with appropriate voltage and cross-section according to work needs.

2.6 Cable laying should choose a route that is not easily damaged and is economically and technically advantageous.

Transportation of cables:

2.7 Try to use the original cable drum for rolling; if it has been dismantled, tie the cable securely to prevent it from loosening during rolling. The rolling direction should be consistent with the winding direction of the cable.

2.8 When rolling the cable, do not bump, crush, or squeeze the cable.
