The high voltage generator, also known as DC high voltage generator, is the traditional name for high voltage power supply. It is mainly used for DC withstand voltage tests on high voltage electrical equipment such as zinc oxide arresters, power cables, transformers, and generators.
Operation of the high voltage generator:
1. Wiring method:
Place the chassis and the voltage doubling cylinder in appropriate positions, and connect the power cord, cable, and grounding wire respectively. The protective grounding wire, working grounding wire, and the grounding wire of the discharge rod should all be separately connected to the ground terminal of the test object (i.e., single-point grounding). It is strictly forbidden to connect the grounding wires in series with each other.
2. Test operation:
First, perform a no-load voltage increase to verify whether the overvoltage protection setting is sensitive. Then connect the power supply, press the red button, and the red light will turn on, indicating that the high voltage is connected.
Second, slowly adjust the voltage regulator potentiometer clockwise, and the output voltage will start to increase from zero. After reaching the required voltage, record the ammeter reading for the specified time, and check whether there are any abnormal phenomena or sounds in the control box and the high voltage output line. Third, reduce the voltage by returning the voltage regulator potentiometer to zero, then press the green button to cut off the high voltage and turn off the power switch.
3. Test of the test object:
Conduct leakage and DC withstand voltage tests on the test object. After confirming that the test device has no abnormal conditions through inspection, the leakage and DC withstand voltage tests on the test object can begin.

Precautions for the high voltage generator:
1. Discharge of large capacitance test objects should be carried out using a discharge resistor rod of 100Ω/V. When discharging, do not immediately contact the test object with the discharge rod. Instead, gradually approach the test object with the discharge rod until a certain distance where air gap ionization discharge occurs with a hissing sound. When there is no sound, the discharge rod can be used for discharge, and finally, directly connect the grounding wire for discharge.
2. When the DC high voltage is 200kV or above, even if the test personnel wear insulating shoes and are in an area beyond the safety distance, due to the influence of the electric field distribution of the high-voltage DC ion space, several nearby standing people may carry different DC potentials. Test personnel should not shake hands with each other or touch the grounding body with their hands, otherwise, there may be a slight electric shock. This phenomenon is more obvious in dry areas and winter, but generally, it will not cause harm to people due to the small energy.
3. After the test, the grounding wire must be hung on the high voltage output terminal before removing the high voltage lead.
